ALGIERS- Minister of
Higher Education and Scientific Research Tahar Hadjar announced yesterday, in
Algiers, the forthcoming creation of a national centre of astronomic research
and studies.
“The creation of this
centre comes under the instruction of President of the Republic Abdelaziz
Bouteflika as part of the Council of Ministers,” Hadjar told the press on the
sidelines of the international colloquium on the “Light and Astronomy”
coinciding with the end of the International Year of Light.
“This centre will have
to develop research and studies in collaboration with other relevant bodies,”
he said, underlining that the centre will see the light in the next weeks,
after presenting constitutive decree in Council of government.
This body is “a new
milestone in the process of building national scientific institutions which
will play a major role in the development of sciences and astronomy,” said the
minister in a speech at the opening of the International Colloquium on “Light
and Astronomy.”
In this regard, he
underlined that Algeria gives a particular interest to science and knowledge,
including optics and physics which have an important place in the national
