LE BOURGET- The
representatives of 195 countries adopted in Paris a global agreement to fight
against global warming, the source of climatic changes and increasing threats
to humans and nature.
After thirteen days of
painstaking negotiations and talks, the countries gathered in le Bourget
succeeded to reach a compromise agreement that brings together the positions of
the various protagonists.
“I look at the room, I
see that the reaction is positive, I did not hear any objection, (then) the
Paris climate agreement is adopted,” said the president of COP21, Laurent
Fabius, sparking a standing ovation of several minutes, hugs, shouts of joy,
throughout the room.
Considered as a
milestone for limiting global warming, the Paris agreement, dubbed “historic”,
after the failure in 2009 at Copenhagen, was approved the member countries of the
UN Framework Convention On climate, in plenary session, which was attended by
Minister of State-ALGERIA, Minister of Foreign Affairs and international
Cooperation , Ramtane Lamamra.
The “just”,
“sustainable” and “binding” agreement has not been put to vote since the
consensus already exists in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change.
It must be ratified by
the parliaments of the Contracting Parties.
The agreement insists
“strongly” on “urgent need to bridge the significant gap “between the overall
effect of the mitigation commitments of Parties in terms of the annual global
emissions of greenhouse gases until 2020 and counter the increase of the
Planet’s average temperature below 2°C.
