The
United Arab Emirates, or UAE has announced their plans to send an unmanned
rocket to Mars in November of the year 2021 to celebrate the country’s 50th
anniversary. Home to the world’s tallest building in the city of Dubai and
dozens of man made islands, the UAE wants to prove that although there is
political unrest in much of the Middle East region, they are still capable of
technological and scientific achievements.

Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the UAE vice-president and ruler of Dubai is
quoted as saying: “We chose the epic challenge of reaching Mars because epic
challenges inspire us and motivate us. The moment we stop taking on such
challenges is the moment we stop moving forward.”
There
are several Muslim majority countries that have space programs including
Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Iran.
Less
than half of the attempted missions to Mars from countries all over the world
have been successful.
The
UAE mission to Mars will reportedly take nine months for the space probe to
travel over 37 million miles.
